Access via Internet

Both QuickBooks and DentaLab for QuickBooks (DQB) offer a number of worthwhile ways to use the Internet:

  • QuickBooks invoices, statements and reports can be emailed to customers.
  • Credit/debit card and other payment solutions can post directly into your QuickBooks customer accounts.
  • DQB email notifications provide reports to the dental offices on cases received and shipped.
  • Through the DentalRx supplement, online prescriptions, preferences, pickup requests and other memos from the dental office communicate directly with your DQB database. This can be linked directly from your website.
  • Images and electronic documents sent by dental offices can easily become part of each case's record for quick lookups, communications in DQB.
  • Remote access from an authorized computer can use your lab system for entry, viewing, analysis, and support of both QuickBooks and DQB.
  • Tablet apps for mobile devices such as Apple’s IPad, Google’s Android and Microsoft’s Windows 8 to track case assignments and progress, timings, workloads and schedules.

To those labs needing remote access on a regular basis, we highly recommend Remote Desktop Services (RDS), which is a technology offered by Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 and above. Some of the benefits of RDS are:


  1. Multiple users can access applications, databases and virtual desktops tied to a central server. The users can be local or at a remote location.
  2. Administration and security measures are simplified because software needs to be installed only on the server rather than on each client station.
  3. Application programs can be accessed remotely via a web page, an icon or an access point in the Start Menu of the remote station.
  4. This technology can provide significant long-range savings in time and money that easily recoup the licensing and installation cost.


If you would like to move DentaLab for QuickBooks to the cloud

We have found that most of the labs that use DentaLab for QuickBooks (DQB) prefer to keep both their hardware and software in-house. For the labs that have expressed an interest in moving DQB to the cloud, we have tested and found its performance successful using the leading cloud provider Amazon Web Services.

Amazon has been continually ahead of the pack in providing a wealth of choices, solid performance and affordability. Its data centers have the highest level of security, co-locations, reliability and speed. The good news to this approach is:

  • You can continue to have the wealth of features available in DQB that have been developed over the years.
  • You do not have to perform data conversions or go through a transition.
  • You and your staff do not need to learn and setup a new system
  • The cloud provider will not have access to the program source code and therefore will not be able to easily view your confidential information.
  • If ever you wish to return to an in-house system, this can easily be accomplished.
  • Amazon Web Services offers a variety of programs for service and payment so you can choose whether to limit to a short period, to have elastic resources, to add extras if you wish.
  • Built into the Amazon services are two automatic backups daily.
  • You will have your own private space within the cloud and will not have to share a database with other labs.
  • You can still have custom features not typically available in web-based systems.
  • You may be able to keep your current in-house equipment for a longer period.

"I have been on the hunt for a new laboratory software program probably for the past 2 years. Now that my partner has retired I can now make it happen.
