FAQ  DentaLab News

It's been a hot muggy July...

But very productive here in our offices as day by day we have been developing an extra heavy load of custom requests and getting the quarterly release ready for all of you.

The July DQB 1.47 release for DentaLab for QuickBooks is now available for download from the Support section of our website:  www.mainstreetsystems.net

If you have an up-to-date service agreement, please call just before you are ready to download to get the current authorization codes and to have your questions answered.  If you are new to this and would like tech support, just let us know. The download is very fast and very easy.   The guide and a list of enhancements is posted on our website in Support/Quarterly Releases and below in this newsletter.

On behalf of the user group, we thank those who come through with a steady beat of worthwhile ideas.

If you have been waiting for a summer special

For the labs who have told us they would like to upgrade their systems this summer to keep up with digital technology, here are a couple of summer specials:

The Images Supplement to acquire, store and access digital files and documents normally licenses for $400.   For this special, the fee will be reduced to $320.

For those who have the starter version of DQB but would like to also have the Images Supplement, you will need to update to the standard version.   The update fee is normally $200, but we will reduce with to $160 if you bundle it with Images for $320, for a combined total of $480.  This is a savings of $120.

The summer specials will remain in effect until August 31, 2016.

For easy education at any time

"Thanks for this great post! - This provides good insight."   Walter Mitchell posted this comment after reviewing the Custom Fields in DentaLab for QuickBooks topic in the Blog section of our website www.mainstreetsystems.net.

Giving you more knowledge in an easy convenient way is one of the primary goals of this blog. Whenever we come upon a topic in our training and support programs that would benefit many of those in our user group, we go to work to develop it in-depth and then post it in the blog.   In addition to the custom fields, the most popular topics have been on case scheduling, digital documents and remote access on mobile devices via MyQuickCloud.

So take a look and let us know if these help you and if there are any other topics you would like us to add.

Easy, versatile software for the modern dental laboratory.

To answer your questions...

Q:  We would like to have our drivers enter on a tablet the cases they pickup.  What is the best way to do this?

A:  There are several possibilities for you to consider.  Take a few minutes to review the article below on remote case entry to see which of these would be a good fit for you and your lab.  Then call and together we will figure out the best way for you to do this.

Q:  Is DQB compatible with Windows 10?

A:  Despite all of our notices, this has remained the #1 question we receive.   This was accomplished last July in the DQB 1.43 release.  You can check the About box in your home menu to determine your version.  If you are at 1.43 or above, your software is compatible with Windows 10.

With the same look and feel of QuickBooks.

Lots of new conveniences in DQB 1.47

These enhancements have been applied to both the starter and standard versions.

Case Entry  – New Screen Organization

In Case Entry, we have continued the project started with the last release to create a new simplified organization for the two most frequently used screens for General Information and Add Items.  The first screen now has these sections:

  • Critical Dates
  • Case Status   - color corresponds to case list highlights
  • Patient Details
  • Case Details
  • Lab Information
  • Additional Case Notes
  • Case Activities

This also includes easier navigation to move back and forth between the first two screens.  The customer will be identified at the top of the screen, but you can click a button to the right to view/hide more customer details.  .

You can also use the convenient button near the top to create an alert.

Take a look...and then let us know what you think.

Standard Procedures – Inactive Option

For those who have standard procedures no longer needed, but want them for prior cases and case histories, we have added an indicator for active vs. inactive with active set as the default.  This indicator will be used as follows:

Basic Lists – Standard Procedures has a new indicator to set the procedure to an inactive status.  The selection grid will initially show all but an option is available to show only actives. The grid will have a column to show active vs. inactive.

Print Lists – Standard Procedures will show if the procedure is active or inactive.

Case Entry – Add Items screen will show only active standard procedures for selection

Basic Lists – Items: Show Schedule Factor

The items grid now shows the schedule factor for each item.

Basic Lists - Standard Procedures: Show Schedule Factor

The standard procedure grid now shows the schedule factor for each item.

Basic Lists – More Modern Controls

We have continued to change to more modern programming controls for accessing and updating the basic lists to provide for greater ease of use and less key movement in the lists.  Updated in this release:

  • Lab Notes

Updated in prior release:

  • Case Stages
  • Case Types
  • Doctor Materials
  • Quality Controls
  • Ship Methods
  • Tooth Shades

This modernization will continue.

Print Lists - Standard Procedures

In Print Lists for Standard Procedures, the list will show the schedule factor for each item and whether the standard procedure is active or inactive.

For remote case entry and lookup

Although most of our labs continue to enter their cases in-house, there are a number of alternatives for those who wish to have this accomplished at another location.  Some may have auxiliary labs, some may want the dental office to perform the entry, some may want (as the lab in the Q&A section above) their drivers or sales personnel to be able to do this.

Alternative #1

You can contract with MyQuickCloud to provide web-based access to the your DQB system.  Access to information on this service is available from the home page of our website: www.mainstreetsystems.net

The cost of this is $25 per user per month to MyQuickCloud.

With a  laptop or a higher end tablet that has an easy to use keyboard, this would be the ideal solution.

With authorization, those at alternate locations could get full access to DQB and could easily enter cases and/or look them up.

Alternative #2

If you would like to have your own website with a web portal for both your dental offices and your authorized personnel, consider our new offering to setup a modern website with your individual text and photos.    This would feature:

  • Home Page with your main message, photos and navigation to the other pages
  • About Us with your background, expertise, experience
  • Services and Products to list and discuss your offerings, along with a web portal to submit and lookup cases as well as other communications
  • Contact Us for how to contact you with a way to send an email directly.

Your personnel would need to be given the authorization codes for each lab to use the system as is or Mainstreet would need to provide a new entry process in which an authorized person would submit the information on behalf of the dental practice.

This alternative is now priced at $320 for the initial setup and a minimum commitment of one year at $70/month for the web site and portal.

Alternative #3

If your lab already has a website and you wish to add a web portal for your customers and other authorized persons, you can license DentalRx to provide for submission and lookup of cases at the dental office, as well as view/edit preferences, send digital images, other communications.

This  is an alternative that has been proven very successful and is now priced at $1600 to license DentalRx, which includes four hours of technical support and/or customization.

Alternative #4

We have had it on our to-do list to add a simple case entry process to the DQBT Workflow App for the tablet. The current tabs in Case Entry that would be involved are:

  • General Information
  • Add Items
  • Add Enclosures

This would involve access to the customer lists and case entry process for New and/or Pre-Booked Case and will require strong security measures.

This alternative will require more development time by Mainstreet.   You can let us know if you would be interested in having this capability in the tablet workflow app.

If you wish to be removed, reply to this email with the subject "unsubscribe".

Customization is available for all products.

"I first met Elaine in 2002 when she was supporting my employer's DOS based version of Dentallab (DLAB). From the start, she proved to be not only cordial, but an extremely knowledgeable source of information. We constantly asked her for customization and functionality that were well beyond what her software was originally intended for. She did it quickly and accurately. Best of all, she did it because her company is focused on customer satisfaction."
