Packing Up

Each day this month, we are allocating an hour to cleaning out and packing up for our move to larger quarters in Harleysville. We have become even more resolved to store more records electronically and not on paper....saves energy, saves space, saves time, saves trees. Our company color is green and green we will be.

Our move will begin on Friday, July 25 as we first move all of our electronic equipment. Then on Monday, July 28, the furniture and telephone movers will go to work. We hope to be mostly operational by Tuesday, July 29.

During the disruption, we will check email from our home computers and will have this mobile telephone in service: 267-265-4535.

July Happenings

The July Release 1.15 has been posted on our website in the Support section for Quarterly Releases. This is an important release geared primarily toward making it smooth and easy for you to be in compliance with FDA Good Manufacturing Practices for material disclosures. The components are documented in the support section, as well as the June newsletter and the PDF user manual available from the Help buttons. Those who have an up-to-date service agreement can call for the authorization codes when ready to download.

A few years back, when we were developing a custom dental laboratory system for the Dental Services Group of labs, one of the managers said "Now, if you could only find a way so that we would not have to do so much case entry." Well, we have taken one giant step in that direction with the adaptation of DentalRx to link directly to DentaLab for QuickBooks, so that the dental office can enter the prescription into DQB's case record, enter and edit the doctor's preferences and request pickups. The prescriptions sent via the internet will be identifiable with the word Web in the Short Memo field in the Case List. A unique printed prescription can also be included with the case materials. Q: I learn much better having hands-on training. Will you be having your Saturday group training sessions again?

A: Yes, we are hoping to do this in October in our new offices in the Village of Lederach, where we will have a training room. Before choosing a date, we are waiting to see how the rest of the restoration and new construction on our building progresses. In our cramped quarters here in Souderton, we have been only able to have one or two people at a time for hands-on training. But we have enjoyed having visitors here from far and wide--including Australia, China, Hong Kong, Norway and, of course, the USA.

Q: Are you planning to come out with a "lite" version of DentaLab for QuickBooks?

A: No, the basic DQB module is tremendously easy to learn and use and is licensed at a very affordable price that includes lots of support during the trial and initial startup periods. We are, however, considering a more "advanced" version, which might include a bundling of features such as scheduling at hourly intervals within the day, handling longer days, DentalRx and other web access options, more business analysis reports, If you have any thoughts on this topic, please let us know.

Q: Some of our cases are sent to another lab for part of process. Do you have a document to accompany these cases?

A: Yes, we have three possible documents. One is a case packing list, which is similar to an invoice but includes no money amounts. The other is a two-up landscape workticket that has two sides: the left is simillar to the half-size A5 work ticket with full information, the right side is more limited and excludes the doctor's information. The right side is typically sent to the other lab. We have thus far created four custom versions of this type of ticket and can work with you to meet your needs. The third possible document is the case plan, which includes free-form text entered at case entry and can be printed.
